Srinagar, Jul 29 (KNO): The Ministry of Consumer Affairs, Food and Public Distribution on Wednesday informed the Lok Sabha that Jammu and Kashmir has recorded 43,15,304 One Nation One Ration Card (ONORC) portability transactions, enabling beneficiaries to access subsidised foodgrains from any Fair Price Shop across the country using Aadhaar-based biometric or OTP authentication. Replying to an unstarred question in the Lok Sabha, the ministry said the ration card database covering around 20.5 crore households under the Pradhan Mantri Garib Kalyan Anna Yojana (PMGKAY) has been 100 per cent digitised across all States and Union Territories. It also stated that the ONORC system has already been implemented in all 36 States and UTs, with over 221.63 crore portability transactions recorded nationwide since its launch. According to the State/UT-wise data placed before Parliament, accessed by the news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO), Ladakh has recorded 17,564 ONORC portability transactions, while Jammu and Kashmir has registered 43.15 lakh transactions under the scheme. The ministry said the ONORC initiative benefits migrant families by allowing them to lift their entitled foodgrains from any Fair Price Shop in the country without changing their existing ration card—(KNO)
